Julie Vang and Nurudin Boukari were chosen this past fall as the first recipients of the Kaufmann and Lurie Besikof Lapidus Scholarships awarded by the SMU SGPP. The scholarships were established by Farley S. Kaufmann and his Minneapolis public accounting firm, Lurie Besikof Lapidus & Company, LLP, to increase awareness in the accounting field with adult students.
“This scholarship benefits my whole family,” said Vang. “The instructors at Saint Mary’s really care about your needs and concerns as students.”
“Saint Mary’s University was an excellent choice because it is close to home, classes are not crowded and the diversity of the students is very helpful to me,” said Boukari. “Instructors want you to achieve your goal.” Boukari received his associate’s degree from Minneapolis Community and Technical College before attending Saint Mary’s University. Vang received her associate’s degree at St. Paul College. Both would like to obtain a CPA license in the future.
This scholarship is awarded annually to students enrolled a least half-time in the Bachelor of Science in Accounting completion program or the Accounting Certificate program in the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs.
